Watching some kids playing during the last days of summer I was reminded of a piece of childhood that I miss. There is a certain abandon that comes so easily with youth. I miss the excitement of doing any activity overriding all reservations and the enthusiasm to just forget about time or poise and let one’s self go on doing that thing that brings joy until exhaustion.
When I get into a pool I have to ease in, adjust to the water, brace myself. I watched these kids charge forward without hesitation or withholding one piece of themselves from the happiness that was possible in that moment.
